Hello all! I have a mini pro 3 with the controller with the screen (DJI RC). Im interested in upgrading to the mini pro 4, specifically for waypoints. 2 Questions

- Is it worth upgrading from 3 to 4? Just For waypoints. the quick reading i did said the waypoints under hyperlapse in 3 was inferior to 4

- If I do upgrade, do you recommend getting the controller with the screen (Pro RC 2) or the controller where I mount my phone on (DJI RC-N2)?

im a contractor and use it for general video'ing jobsite builds and also recreationally.

thank you for the help!

Ciao a tutti!

I have the M4P and really like the waypoints feature.....I use the RC2 ( the one with the screen) I thought it would be difficult to use but learning it was easy ( Youtube University) ...I have fat fingers, so I do use a stylus and it makes it a bit easier for me to make my waypoints...good luck with it and have fun.... Being that you are getting this for a business, you may really want to look into the Air3S ...that seems like a big step up from what I can gather

ok, thank you. gonna see what other suggestions/replies others come up with

I’m not particularly fond of DJI’s implementation of the waypoints feature. One big drawback is that its maps do not contain elevation data, so the recommended method is to fly the route first and create your waypoints while in the air. I am used to using Litchi, which considers elevation data and allows me to create the entire mission using my computer. However, Litchi cannot be used with DJI's latest drones, like the Mini 4 Pro.

Another big drawback is that all waypoints are based on the height above the home point. You cannot enter negative values. What does this mean? Let’s say you want to create a waypoint mission on the controller from home (I recommend the RC 2 controller) to take some video of a bridge under construction. Flying over or around or flying the length of the bridge is not an issue. However, you cannot set a waypoint that will allow you to fly below the bridge. You cannot set a waypoint that is lower than the home point.

One thing to remember when flying a waypoint mission is that should the drone encounter an object in its path, it will stop and hover regardless of your settings. It will not attempt to bypass the object.

So, the ability to create a waypoint mission is a nice feature as long as you understand its limitations.

Correction: Using the bridge example, if the home point is on the ground near the footing (?), then there would be no problem as all waypoints would be above the home point. You could then examine the construction from the bottom up instead of the top down. I hope this makes sense.

For what it is worth, I have used Litchi for waypoints, panos, and flying with my Mavic 2 Pro; and I love it.
I have a Mini 3 Pro and use it with an RC-N1 and an iPhone 14. Litchi or Litchi Beta (check) can be used with an Android device to set missions for the Mini 3 Pro, but NOT with the Mini 4 Pro. Since I am an iGuy, I have no Android devices, so I cannot give any feedback on using Litchi missions with the Mini 3 Pro.
Consider too, deals may be available with the Mini 3 (not sure if is still available as new), and the Mini 5 has rumours of being available this year, if that may impact your decision.

Yes. No question, for general waypoint missions. The 3 does not have autonomous waypoint capability, so must fly waypoint missions via "virtual sticks" and a third party app like Litchi Pilot (sucks, nothing like the awesome Litchi app). Do some research yourself to understand the difference. The 4 has autonomy and a waypoint feature included in DJI Fly.

For Hyperlapse waypoint missions, no there is no reason to upgrade. Both the 3 and the 4 support and Fly Hyperlapse waypoints by uploading the mission to the drone, and then it flies autonomously.

You have to consider also the possibility to create a Litchi Waypoint Mission (CSV file) in your computer's large screen convert it to DJI Fly Waypoint mission (KMZ file) and import it to your device. Both to RC 2 and RC-N2

Check also about limitations in the RC's with the screen. All this in Litchi Mission Utilities

Since Mini 4 Pro is having on board way points you have to use DJI Fly to create flight plans. Which can only be run in mobile phones or RC screens

I'm satisfied with Litchi (not Litchi Pilot which is used for Mini 3 pro) even though it is using Virtual stick mode for drones without on board waypoints but for the possibility to create these on my computer!

It should be nice if somebody has used the above conversion and how it performs with DJI Fly. It is the same with Air 3s
