DJI RC battery swap

Hi everyone,

My DJI RC with the integrated screen, bought with my Mini Pro 3 two years ago, is now showing its age. Even when charged to 100%, it drops to 80% after a few hours in storage and looses 15-20% per flight, making longer days difficult.

I tried to get a battery replacement quote from DJI, but they need to "test" it first. For those who had DJI swap the battery, how much did it cost? For others who did it themselves, how hard was it and where did you buy the battery?

Thanks and happy flying!

Which controller? Most are very simple to do yourself! and the batteries are easily available from places like Ebay.

I had a similar issue with my DJI RC last year. When I reached out to DJI for a battery replacement, they did require a testing period first. The cost ended up being around $150, which was a bit steep. If you’re considering doing it yourself, it’s not too difficult if you’re comfortable with some basic DIY. I found replacement batteries on sites like Amazon or DroneNerds, and there are several tutorials online to guide you through the process. Just make sure to follow instructions carefully to avoid any mishaps. Hope this helps and happy flying!

Would you have a link maybe ? I have searched and searched but only land on tutorials for the RC N1

And you have had no problem since with the battery ? Do you also have a link of which battery you used ? Or any brand is reputable ?

Did you buy 2 18650 2600mAh batteries ? Like this one: Fenix ARB-L18-2600 - Li-Ion battery 18650 - 2600mAh

Based on my research on this issue, you need two 18650 2600mAh batteries with JST connector (two wires only).

There is also a possibility of battery miscalibration, which was my case. What I had to do was the following...

1. Open the RC controller
2. Disconnect one of the batteries
3. Reconnect the battery, turn on the controller - battery level will be suddenly higher.
4. Discharge until RC turns off.
5. Repeat step 2-4 until there is no additional charge and you cannot turn the controller on.
6. Charge the controller to 100%, discharge to 0% and charge again to 100%.

This way the battery controller will learn the upper and lower limit of the batteries (recalibration) and there is a chance it will work OK after that.

Unfortunately I seem to have nicked one plastic part holding the lower left screw making it rotate infinitely and I can't access the inside of the RC
