Could the firmware update be the problem that killed our system?

In preparation for today’s flights we used the refresh option since we had the latest firmware version Vol 1.00.620 on both the Mavic Air and the controller.

Last night in preparation for three contract flights today, we charged all our equipment which included the controller and four batteries.

At our first site we did our normal pre-flight which includes battery checks on both the drone and controller, and both indicated full at takeoff. Approximately two minutes from engine start, we received an emergency low battery message that the done was preforming an emergency landing. We were lucky that we were flying a construction progress flight over a large open field, which allowed a safe landing and a short walk to recover the drone.

We tried three other batteries with the same results; After approximately two minutes of flight, with a starting battery level of 97%, we received the same emergency low battery message and the drone executed an emergency landing.

We were unable to turn the controller off.

Anyone have the same or similar problem? Could it be the firmware????

I have not heard of your problem but yes, a firmware update can cause problems. I had an instance where an update to Go 4 hosed my video. I reverted to an earlier version and have not updated since (over two years now).

You mention updating the Air and controller, but not batteries. They may also might need an update but Go 4 should be telling you that.

Looking at the flight log might give some clues. This can happen with a battery that has entered self discharge mode however a full charge the night before flight seems to rule that out, unless the battery was still close to full and the charger didn’t top it off.

cant help with your problem, but if it was working and on latest firmware, why do a refresh, as the saying goes, if it aint broke don't fix it, seems true in this case, hope you get it sorted.

You did a firmware update the day before a commercial job with no testing of the firmware after download?

A recipe for problems and probably more than irresponsible for a commercial operator to be honest.

There are lots of possible explanations but to find out what the issue was, you'll need to post your recorded flight data.
