Do you think litchi is needed now?

I believe their (Litchi) claim as waypoints 2.0 has the same issue.

I set up 2 identical simple missions, one with DJI Waypoints and one with Litchi and the jerkiness while trying to keep focus on the POI was equally as bad on both.

My MPP was silky smooth by comparison.

This is an excellent post, and thank you for taking the time to do the comparison. I wonder if DJI is aware of this issue.

As it stands, Litchi has several advantages:
1) DJI Waypoints 2 requires the drone to be connected and powered on in order to plan a flight. A Litchi mission on the other hand can be setup even when not connected to the controller or aircraft. In Fact you can plan a Litchi flight on your home PC/Mac on a big screen before leaving home using mission hub.
2) The DJI interface is very fiddly to use with limited zooming of the map for accurate editing. Even on a 9.3" iPad its very difficult to select or move a POI or Waypoint. The Litchi interface is much easier to use, has better zoom and clearer menus.
3) Although flight plans can be saved in DJI Waypoints 2 you cannot give them a name or description, all you get is the date & number of points. Litchi Mission hum lets you give your missions a descriptive name and even share with others or use somebody else's flight plan of a good location.
4) Litchi does have more options than the DJI offering, although I'm sure more will come in time. Its taken months to get this far. Litchi has it now ans well tested.

Litchi does sound like its better .... not sure how it works (downloading and such)...I’ll look into it..
BTW ...with DJI waypoints you can rename your saved missions to whatever you want...

hi the 'poor man's goggles' are attractive . . are there instructions on how to use , please.. where do I find them? thanks!

If you enter something like "litchi with gear vr" into Youtube's search field, you get lots of examples. For instance this:
To view this content we will need your consent to set third party cookies.
For more detailed information, see our cookies page.

There are two varieties of "cheap" VR Goggles, ie, those that don't have dedicated electronics and utilize a normal smartphone. These are simple holders, such as Google Cardboard and its more elegant cousins. And then there are Oculus devices, either under Oculus brand or the Gear VR offered by Samsung for Samsung phones.

The first variety, the simple phone holders, are easy enough to use with Litchi. Just ensure that you can get the USB cable out of the holder for the smartphone to work. The idea is that you should use your smartphone normally to get the drone flying, and then tap the goggles icon in Litchi and mount the phone into the holder and onto your eyes. Tapping the goggles icon causes Litchi to split the phone screen in two halves, one for each eye. The resolution will be dropped to 720p, but the clarity and contrast are excellent because stray light is blocked out.

Oculus-based devices (including Samsung Gear VR) are normally designed for viewing VR content. When you mount your phone in these devices, Oculus mode is activated automatically. To use Samsung Gear VR with Litchi, you must do two things: 1) ensure that the phone doesn't connect to the Gear VR, and 2) modify the hardware so that you can lead the USB cable to the phone when it's mounted in the goggles. Some of the Youtube hits you get have "disable Oculus" in their title. Now you know what it means. When you fly your drone, you don't want to see 360 videos about dinosaurs around you.

Samsung Gear VR 2017 model comes with two connecting plugs: one for micro-B and one for USB-C. I removed the electronics from the micro-B plug and modified the mechanics so that I can lead USB-C cable to my phone. However, I soon found out that this wasn't a satisfactory solution for me. One problem was that whenever something needs to be adjusted via the smartphone, the goggles have to be removed from the user's head. Another problem was that this mode didn't use the phone's best resolution.

A benefit of Samsung Gear VR is that it has built-in diopter lenses, so you may not need additional glasses when you use them.

And with Litchi, you can pre-fly the mission in glorious 3D using Google Earth, tuning it and adding assurance you're not going to fly into the side of a hill.
This is definitely one of the coolest features.

ofc numbers of users using litchi will drop dramatically, this is end days for litchi. I own litchi myself and the only reason to used is stability of dji go4.
I disagree I have an iPad mini two years old, run on version 9.x DJI vs 4 will not run on it so Litchi it is.
As long as Litchi keeps up with options and keeps the program backwards compatible for older O.S systems they will have my business

I don't doubt you, but I'm curious why your iPad Mini won't run DJI GO 4. Are others having problems with that? I DO think anything earlier than a Mini 4 is going to be an issue. I'm using Litchi more-and-more as my go to, I do still use DJI GO 4 and don't have issues with my iPad mini 4 Wi-Fi + Cellular (64GB) purchased about two years ago as long as I close all running tasks before launching the DJI app (I do this with Litchi, as well) and keep it cool by taking it out of the case. I also frequently use a newer iPad Pro 11 which obviously supports and all apps much more ably.

Did you mean you're running iOS 9? If so, that is definitely your problem. You need to update to iOS 12. Everything should run much better under iOS 12 and I suspect DJI Go 4 just flat out won't run on iOS 9.

Hi Guys.
1. If something goes wrong while using Litchi, does it means you loose your warranty on your mavic too?
2. This update of Go4 is only for mavic 2 ??

Regards
Carel
On 1 there’s no warranty on a 2 year old Mavic Pro like mine. I’ll stick with Litchi.

The iPad Mini 1 was released in 2012 and is a relative dinosaur in the age of technology that has already been updated three (soon to be four) times. Kind of unreasonable to expect it to support current-day apps... imho

P.S. when the iPad mini 5 is released, I’ll sell you my flawless iPad mini 4.... [emoji6]
