There is a reason why we have over 500 Pictures posted of Lighting Strikes !

The best way to capture the storm is to get up inside of it before the Winds get out of Control.
This is because getting up in the storm is the hardest part without crashing .

The next part is to be able to Negotiate the Rain , thus finding shelter is the key as well as protecting your drone with a Wet Suit to fly thru the Rain without issue. Flying from inside your car or Patio / Garage to name a few.

Trying to Photo Burst the Sky in hopes of Getting a LIghtning Strikes is incredibly hard as this client points out directly and is the wrong way to capture an amazing storm.

Thus the best way is to just Video Record in 60 Frames as this will give your best chance as you often dont get a second chance in a Storm.

Learning how to Scrub the Video Time line is essential for finding amazing Lighting Photos that are hidden in your video.

We have found the Average Storm has about 20 to 100 Pictures of Lightning that can only be seen when Scrubbing thru the 60 Frames captured on your Video Time Line.

Fact is most Lighting strikes are completely hidden in the video until you run thru the timeline and than there you find all the Gems of the Storm.

60 Frames will give you Hundreds of Amazing Pictures to choose from , and your likely to get a much better exposure as well . This will help you getter a much cleaner shot and get away from the Heavy Purple haze that comes with many of the lighning shots we see posted.

Capturing Lighting shots is easy when you have the Wet Suit and the Skills needed to zoom the video Time Line.
In one storm that lasted no longer than 3 minutes we captured over 150 Lightning bolts in the sky. Very cool

I recommmend two things :

First always get the Majority of the storm using Auto Settings. this is critical as it will not fail you.
Once you feel like you got a good part of it, you can than Dial in the ISO and play with the F Stop.

One trick we use is to Dial down the Exposure when looking for the Lightning in the sky on the monitor , the darker the better but once you find the soucre remember to dial it back up .

Another really good habit is to attempt to Frame your shot with buildings, houses, Trees/ tower , as you dont want to take a picture of just the Sky as its no where near as interesting as when you get a subject in front of it.
