Be sure not to miss the update in that guys.

Update: please don't call your local senator. Amendment 256 has been shelved for the time being. We're keeping this article up as representatives from DSPA predict that Senator Mike Lee will make another attempt to pass this bill in the near futre.

I personally would and will still contact my local senator to keep ahead of this. Shelved means it will definitely come back. Make your voice heard before it gets reintroduced quietly.

It doesn't hurt to write/email/call your senators so they know how their constituents feel about this.

I just sent the following to my senators:

Dear Senator Schumer,

I read this morning that Senator Mike Lee made another attempt to get the Drone Federalism Act passed. As one of your constituents, I am asking you to keep that bill from becoming law. The FAA should be the sole agency responsible for regulating airspace. Allowing local governments to regulate part of the airspace will open the door to a mismatched quilt of different rules and fees, making it difficult for all pilots flying in the US. I am a hobbyist drone pilot and knowing what the FAA requires and regulates allows me to fly my drone safely and securely.

respectfully yours,

How much longer is Senator Lee going to be in office?
A while, a long while. He won his 2nd term with 68% of the vote. He's only 49, he's basically going be the senior senator from Utah for as long as he wants the job.
