That is a good use for drones and I believe that is used here. I know that finding stolen cars can be made so much easier with a quick fly over. The cameras on some commercial drones are amazing in their capabilities.

Our aeronautics club students at school got to see a drone that was being demonstrated to them by the local police department catch a suspect - Just while the club was in session outside, there was a nearby burglary right next to the school and the officer flew it over it over the building and called in where the suspect was hiding.

I’ve personally seen two instances where suspects running from the cops gave themselves up after being on foot and just hearing the UAV overhead. In fact, once apprehended, one of them said he knew there was no outrunning a drone so he decided to give himself up.
