Drones are being used to plant tree seedlings after forest fires

Technically, a tree can’t REDUCE emissions of CO2 but it does metabolize CO2 by Photosynthesis. View attachment 155998

Wouldn't it be more accurate if they said "sequestered" the CO2? It's taken from the air and "bound" within the tree as the tree grows etc.

“Sequestered” may mean that an intact CO2 molecule is bound irreversibly directly to another molecule. The above equation shows a very active rearrangement of CO2 and water to create molecular oxygen (O2) AND a sugar (carbohydrate) due to absorbing energy from photons. Energy is absorbed and the emerging molecules “store”photon energy to be used for tree metabolism - growth and survival. This chemical energy is released as heat as the tree decomposes or is burned (oxidation). That individual CO2 molecule pretty much ended way up this remarkable process. All petroleum and coal products have energy to be released by oxydation because of photosynthesis. And then CO2 is formed during oxidation - and the cycle continues. So CO2 is a very important molecule that is ONE key temporary molecule to our very existence!

If I remember right, the trees take the CO2 and the sun's rays and make oxygen for us to breathe. Also if it weren't for the sun's rays there wouldn't be any global warming. We'd freeze overnight.

You are correct. Actually ALL earth based energy except nuclear is solar in origin. Wind, hydro, solar, petrochemical, coal, and combustable energy are all based on solar energy. In truth, jet fuel energy is a release of photon based energy as a distillate of petroleum. Our drones fly on solar energy except for that part of the grid powered by nuclear energy. Try telling a seat mate on a jet flight that “this is a solar powered aircraft”. But it is.

The difference between green energy which it is not, and regular solar collected energy is for the fact that the concept is the same, batteries are a short lived collector.

I can but wonder, what are the enviromental costs associated with Li battery production, use and disposal/recycling as compared to petrol driven vehicles? I wonder if in fact such innovations are seen as favourable because their 'production cost' can be shunted off into 'someone else's back yard', "out of sight is out of mind" and all that.

Another HUGE limiting factor is that the large neighborhood electrical trunk lines and distribution systems were not built to handle the amperage required to replace the gasoline potential energy stored in the garages in 100 homes. Each gallon of gasoline is about 33. 7 kilowatt hours of potential energy. The average American household consumes 30 KWh PER DAY! To replace the energy equal to 5 gallons of gasoline requires an additional 168 KWh - PER DAY. That’s more than a POTENTIAL 5 fold daily increased energy consumption ! Now if there are TWO cars needing recharging double those numbers.
Ask your utility what those 20-30 year old electrical distribution systems really can handle. Can the load be increased five fold?
It is true that a Tesla 3 is more efficient than most gas cars but it still requires 40 kWh to travel about 160 miles. These numbers come from the EIN.

Recharging one Tesla might take down the whole grid.
