This is the one big unsolved issue I have with my Mavic: those awesome long videos are sitting on my hard drive unedited and are only viewed by immediate family and self. They're just too unwieldy to send to friends or post on YouTube, with 50% of the material typically being stuff hat needs to be edited out.

A situation I often find myself in is that I go on a trip and want to create a video combining a bunch of drone videos with handheld videos from my Sony as well as photos. I want to stitch them together and overlay audio, with the hard part being the matching of transitions in the video with those in the music.

I don't find iMovie intuitive for doing this, but maybe I'm using it wrong? In particular, how to sync music with video transitions? Google Photos with its fantastic Movie creation feature has helped a bit -- it even does automatic creations using AI that are pretty decent -- but it's limited to 720p in output and who wants this.

Assuming some of you would like to achieve the same results, what software do you use? Thanks.

Basic software will struggle, in Adobe Premiere (for example) you can view the audio track and drag timeline visually to match drumbeat peaks or change in tempo.

I find if I don't use recorded material in a few days the moment has gone and I may as well delete it unless it's some particularly special event.
But looking back at rather ordinary flights on youtube a few months later is often quite interesting if only to critique your own flying/editing ineptness .. :)

Right, that is precisely why I would like to consolidate my flights (and other video/photos I took of places I visited) into shorter snippets, a few minutes long, with music, that are easy to share and keep around as memories. So i can ignore/delete all the whole videos. I just can't find software to do it well.

Vegas Movie Studio and/or Vegas Pro can handle all media types, together. You can mix all types of clips and photos, and have complete control over where you edit (i.e., syncing edits with music)...

Power director 15 uses auto-created shadow files of much lower resolution whe you're editing, allowing you to edit high def videos far more easily. It then stiches together the actual full high defination videos when you render the final output. You can also make lighter weight lower resolution versions to upload to YouTube if you want to shre them with your family withouth struggling to upload very large files.

iMovie works pretty well for quick stuff. DaVinci Resolve is excellent for more in depth editing. You may want to try the Photos App slideshow creator. I believe you can add video clips amongst your photos pretty easily. I haven't tried this myself, just a possible option.
