Egaleo Park or "Baroutadiko" ~ Drone 4K UHD
Egaleo Park or "Baroutadiko", a name that refers to the former Purifier Factory of the area, is a wooded area of about 134 acres, between Iera Odos and Athens-Corinth Avenue in Egaleo, Attica. It is the largest green lung in Western Attica. The historic chimney of the former Fire Department In the 1960s, the production of the -first- factory has weakened, due to the many protests of the residents about the fatal accidents that occurred, often with many victims, from explosions of hazardous materials used for preparation of ammunition.
In 1970 the factory was suspended and in 1974 the site was transferred to the State Real Estate Company, the equipment was donated to the Greek army, the facilities were demolished (except for one chimney and a water collector) and a total of 40,000 trees were planted.
The cornerstone was laid, symbolically, on November 14, 1976, under Prime Minister Konstantinos Karamanlis, who planted a plane tree. Mainly educational and sports facilities were built, as well as the open-air theater "Alexis Minotis", the inauguration of which was carried out by the honorary citizen of Egaleo Manos Hadjidakis.
Within the Grove is the local Cultural - Environmental Association "Friends of the Purifier", while the space is scattered with sculptures and heroes. The tunnels that were built for security reasons are now hermetically sealed to prevent delinquent behavior.
