It kind of reminds me a little of the incident last summer that got a ton of press where a plane hit a drone landing at Heathrow - you can google it. Except....turns out it wasn't a drone after all it was a plastic bag (you can Google that too). I always go back to the billions of birds in US airspace at any given moment - unless you happen to pull a dozen big ones into both engines they really aren't especially hazardous to aviation.
