Ocala, Florida – Senior United States United States District Judge Gregory A. Presnell has sentenced Wendell Doyle Goney (52, Mount Dora) to four years in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. Goney entered a guilty plea on October 5, 2023.

Sounds like the drone shooting was not even part of the plea, wonder if he was charged for it in the first place. But yes I agree, this turns out not to be about the drone shooting and the dronedj story is somewhat misleading. Looks like there are still ultimately no apparent penalties for shooting down drones.

The plea bargain and the sentencing involved the charge of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, not shooting the drone down.
