No, but if you are updating you may as well or else the app will nag you about updates

Dynamic Home Point would be nice -- but not enough for me to take a chance on mucking up my system

You will have dynamic homepoint as that is the position of the AC. If you have no gps in your device then you are going to miss out on HP me.

DHP uses the postion of the controller/tablet/phone if the tablet/phone has a GPS unit built in and will update the homepoint of the quad as the pilot moves away from the orignal homepoint, however DHP is only available when using Active Track mode, this is only available on 01.04.0000 and above using DJI GO 4 app v4.1.10 or higher, I miss the days of my P2V when DHP was available in the app.
