Took my Mavic out for its maiden flight today. It is absolutely incredible. In beginner mode used one battery just getting used to the controls. Surprised at the good flight time and generally really impressed.
Inserted the second battery and took off beginner mode. Still really great, didn't go too far as stil getting used to it. The battery level hit 30% and the warnings came on, I decided to keep it low and close and just practiced a little more before landing. All of a sudden the emergency return to home warning sounded and the Mavic began to climb to its RTH height, I panicked as the battery level was low, about 10 seconds in to thinking I was about to lose the drone I looked at the screen and saw I could cancel the RTH. Clicked it and brought it back down. Phew, panic over.
Just goes to show the importance of lots of practice flights getting used to everything. This is an outstanding drone, unless faulty I am sure most of these nightmares we read about are pilot error.
Safe flying everyone.

You can go into the settings and change at what battery level RTH kicks in, sounds like it was set to about 25%. Glad you were able to regain control and not have a bad experience.

Another lesson that can be learned from this even though it did not effect you this time it where you are flying with a low battery. You certainly don't want to be flying under trees and have RTH kick in and start climbing only to hit what is above it if you cannot stop it quick enough.

I did this when I got my P3A. Also looking up at it as it gets higher makes my legs feel like jelly. Unsure if it's being anxious or because it's weird looking at it that high.

Also one hint again. Batteries don't like to be flown until empty. This directly reduces their lifetime. It is preferable to finish at 30% when the battery warning (defaul value) shows up. Regard the remaining capacity just as an emergency reserve.
