Hey everyone,

I just completed my first night flight with the DJI Mini 5 Pro, and I have to say - I’m seriously impressed by its low-light capabilities.

I flew over downtown Montreal and the Old Port around 9 PM, when the city was still alive with lights and activity. The 1-inch sensor performed beautifully - the highlights stayed clean, and the shadows held plenty of detail without too much noise.

Here’s the short cinematic edit from that flight:

Everything was shot in manual mode and later graded in DaVinci Resolve. The music was created with Suno AI, matching the calm, moody atmosphere of the city at night.

I’m really impressed with how the Mini 5 Pro handles these conditions for such a compact drone.

Nice!

very impressive indeed. oh, was that a legal flight? - i love montreal

I wondered the same. What are the regs there? Mike
Well, this is what to consider here: (for Canada)

1. Sub-250 g category: a micro-drone, which falls under section CAR 900.06 —

“No person shall operate a remotely-piloted aircraft system in such a reckless or negligent manner as to endanger or be likely to endanger aviation safety or the safety of any person.”

That’s basically the only rule that applies to microdrones in Canada.

2. People in vehicles/buildings: according to the AIM 2025-2 (RPA section 3.2.14 – Horizontal Distance),

“People inside vehicles or inside buildings are not factored into the 30-metre horizontal distance rule” (for basic) or the 5 m rule (for advanced).

So in simple words, unless you doing something very stupid with a micro drone , including flying over a crowd of people or advertised event without SFOC. or fly in the airport, for example - you are good.

In terms of Mini 5 pro weight - well I am following DJI declaration that it is under 250 g drone class C0.

Great Job ! I have been experimenting with Firework night settings and would be interested in What settings you use
Again like yours black nights rather than sunset shots 😎

It was 1600 ISO - this is the max iso I would recommend for mini 5 pro. And the shutter speed I tried to keep it at 180 degrees rule. So I went from 60 FPS to 30 to gain 1 Stop. And the shutter speed was 1/60. No ND filters, obviously, as it is already too dark.

And then in post in DaVinci, slightly cooler temperature and a bit of grading + AI ultra Denoiser on top.

There is this video I made regarding ISO -
