Hadn't flown in awhile due to weather. Checked the Batteries the night before - Full charge.
Get to the site and set up to find my battery had auto discharged over night to 60%.
Fly for a bit only to realize that filming snow in the middle of the day with no ND filters is ruining most of my shots.
Return to Home warning starts blaring from the Ipad.
One. More. Shot....
Wasn't in the cards for me this day. Got lucky on the spot it landed.
- Yes I know how bad this is for the battery -

It's happened to me a few times, not fully appreciating that the drone is smarter than I about how much time it needs to RTH given distance, altitude, wind velocity, etc. I'm much more respectful after a very lucky recovery.

Something's not quite right about that explanation.
The battery discharge default setting is 10 days.
After that the battery starts to discharge and it takes time to do that.
If you turn the battery on to check the charge level, that resets the timer to zero.

Launching with a battery that has partially discharged is asking for trouble.
The % indicator is going to give a false reading and the voltage the battery can supply will drop quickly.
