Gimbal overload. HOT!

I had intermittent gimbal over load warnings for a year. Would work it’s self out usually.
Then I had a pretty hard crash. And the gimbal overload warning was on full time. The ribbon was torn. So I replaced gimbal ribbon and the camera cable while I had it opened.

Now I’m still getting gimbal overload warning. Camera flips front to back. And left and right. But I don’t see it rotating. All three motors get quite hot.
Not sure where to go from here. Any advice?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Gently roll the gimbal around with your finger and feel for any resistance You can try to blow it out with non canned air.

The gimbal on an original Mavic pro is a lovely slim and elegant design which, unfortunately is the Achilles heel for this drone. All it takes is the slightest knock and you're getting the dreaded "gimbal overload" yellow card.

From what you say: it sounds like the yaw arm has ended up damaged or displaced slightly by an impact.

You're obviously not a stranger to a workbench strip down, so I think the best thing to do might be to buy a complete replacement gimbal arm (currently available and surprisingly cheap) and install it onto the original board with the original camera.

Another question - what happens when you try to put the camera into 'portrait' orientation?

When I bought my first drone, it was the original PRO. Within a few weeks, I had the same thing happen, for absolutely no reason. It was brand new, hardly flown and never bumped, dropped or landed hard.

The gimbal would go through the same thing as yours is doing on start-up, but the side motor of the gimbal would get too hot to even touch. I had to replace the entire gimbal and camera, even though the camera was fine. It just went bad.

Gimbals are the worst to work on and you usually end up spending a lot on trying to repair it and it never seems to get repaired. Save all the time and hassle and additional money and just get yourself a replacement unit and you will be better off.

One thought would be to make sure some form of debris has not entered the system.
High pressure air blower in the motor seams may be useful. Just hold the gimbal with your fingers so it’s not jumping around in the process.
