In 1904, a weir was built across the Bow River to divert water for agriculture. Unfortunately, the weir has a dangerous side effect — it crease a lethal hydraulic wave that prevents movement up or down stream and has claimed the lives of several people. Harvie Passage eliminates the ‘drowning machine’, giving safe and unrestricted access to emergency safety patrols, recreational paddlers and fish, while respecting fisheries, the local habitat and the aquatic ecosystem.
