Hello and welcome, bldine --
The first piece of advice I would give a new person is, watch your altitude (always go HIGHER than you think) and get used to the controller climb/descend stick movement. Meaning, and I say this as a former light plane pilot who was frustrated by the Mavic controls, pulling BACK on the stick as in trying to climb in an airplane will crash you into those trees every time. Rehearse: pulling back causes it to drop; pushing forward causes it to climb. Pretty obvious but needs practice!
