I currently have a Mavic mini (the first one), and was thinking of getting the new Mavic mini 3 Pro.

Just a few questions though if any of you can help?

Is there much of a difference between the mini and the mini 3 Pro, speed, altitude, etc? I heard the mini 3 Pro has follow me mode and obstacle avoidance now, which would be handy. Is that true? Is it any good?

Also with the new rules that are apparently coming out next year, the classifications etc, does the mavic 3 pro, still fall under the 'legacy' drones like the mini and mini 2? (I watched Ian London video on YouTube and learned about that bit, but no mention of the Mavic 3 though).

Also, what about the app called Litchi, if I were to get the Mini 3 with the handset, does that mean I can't use the Litchi app and would therefore be better off with using my phone as the controller?

One more thing, what about DJI care refresh, I have this with my existing mini, if I bought the mini 3 Pro, would I be able to transfer this to my new mini, if I were to sell my original mini?

Any help would be much appreciated, and sorry for all the questions.

Cheers

CareRefresh stays with the drone. If you sell the drone the new owner continues the CareRefresh. Check your CareRefresh contract for the details just to make sure.

Thanks very much Dave. Appreciate the speedy reply 👍

The original Mavic Mini was a very basic drone with a basic wifi transmission system and basic features.
The Mini 2 and Mini 3 were much more sophisticated models with a much improved Occusync transmission system that allows greater range.
The original Mini was slower and much less capable.
The later models have a lot more features.

Comparing the specs is a good place to see the differences:

Currently Litchi won't work with the Mini 3.

Best if you go to DJI web site, there you will gain most of the info you are seeking, can't assist you with Litchi as I do not use it with my Drones. I also have the mini 3 Pro with RC controller, and mini 2 with RC N1 controller between these models there is a substantial difference in functionality and additional features, the mini 1 substantially less features compared to the other mini drones. More info as mentioned can be gained from DJI.com site, to my knowledge the care refresh is not transferrable to another model, but always best to purchase for piece of mind. You will not be disappointed if you purchase the mini 3 Pro.

@FireAnt ,hi fellow flyer ,i have the original MM and now also the new Mini 3 pro
as has already been mentioned ,in terms of features ,and performance ,the two drones are worlds apart ,with regards to the rules for flying in the UK ,as things stand, then nothing has changed except, the implementation date of 31st December 2022 will hopefully be cancelled which will mean that we can keep on flying our (Legacy drones ) as we do now ,
whether or not the powers that be do that ,has not been decided yet

One point, height limits, ceilings, remain the same as the Mavic Mini, legally with in 400ft of the ground, NOTE this is not the same as other countries where the rule is "above the ground directly beneath the drone" referred to as AGL.
There is also a hardwired ceiling at 500m which is relative to the take-off point.

Be wary of obstacle avoidance (OA) if and when you first use it, especially if you do manual descents (my preference) for landings, rather than automated descents etc..
DJI generally seems to switch OA off during automated landings, I can't remember if they switch it off for take off and the subsequent climb to height.
I rarely use OA (M2P/Z).
Remember OA is not infallible.

Thanks for the replies, all of you.
Some very helpful information here, and I appreciate it.
Looks like I'll get one ordered then.

Now it's decision time, or what to do with my original mini

I'd keep the Mavic mini ..... as a back up.
Just a quick one. As I have relations in the US, and sometimes travel between the US and the UK, would you suggest getting the fly more combi pack with the extra flight time batteries? I know it brings the weight to over 250g and that's not allowed in the UK, but in the US, I'm thinking it might be a no brainer?

I wouldn't because when you are back in teh UK what happens then?
How many people actually fly the standard battery until the low battery RTH kicks in or until concern about an emptying battery forces a return?
If you do I suspect you'll do the same thing with the larger battery so really you are no better off.

I have both the standard and the plus versions of the M3P battery. If you have the choice, get the extended versions. They’re much better.
You’re allowed the extended batteries in the UK, but you must fly according to C1 class conditions in the drone code.
