There are many wonderful places to fly around the Springs area. At the same time, there are places you do NOT want to fly. Helen Hunt Falls is a nice start. Bear Creek Park and the Dog Park, Palmer Park and the Garden of the Gods are considered as a nature preserve, NO DRONE! Some areas of Memorial Park (the side closer to blind and deaf school) are away from most people. I enjoy Sagebrush and Wildflower Parks and periodically the Sports Complex on S. Circle Dr. Palmer Lake is very drone friendly as are Victor and Cripple Creek areas. Of course, the closer you get to the airport, the lower your permissible altitude becomes. I am only permitted 50 foot at my house, but if I cross west of the Sand Creek I gain 25 feet. Many think Springs is NOT conducive to good drone flying, but that may stem from Ft Carson on the south, USAFA on the north and KCOS on the east. But, there is still plenty of opportunity here.
I recommend start in your back yard or a neighborhood park to help learn the basics (assumption: Christmas gift!). You will do fine! Again, welcome to the forum.
I actually live just north, in Monument, and was thinking the area north of Palmer Lake in the Greenland open space (east of Spruce mountain) would be a good place to start. Have you flown there? Thanks for the welcome and the advice!
