Hi,

When I opt for high resolution photos (48 megapixel) the photo size goes up from about 10MB to 15MB. Shouldn't the file size be about 4 times compared to regular resolution?

No ... because jpg files are a compressed file format.

No. A few things are going on here. The camera chip is "48MP". This means each pixel is its own. However, when you take one at 12MP it is doing something called "binning". The camera "combines" 4 pixels into one "super pixel". 4x12=48. Better low-light performance, cleaner images, faster processing for orthomosaics & 3D models. Less fine detail than 48MP.

48MP max detail, useful if you need extreme zoom or cropping, however, slower processing, heavier on storage, more noise in low light.

So there is about the same amount of data, but the JPG compression helps keep the files smallish.

Hope that helps.
