Mini 3 Historic Sunnyside Rail Bridge, Tenterfield NSW

Nice video of this old structure. Looking at the timber work it looks inadequate to be able to take the weight of a train but obviously it used to be. You live in a beautiful part of the country. Thanks for sharing

I like it! Upkeep on it must have been costly with it being wood. Do you know if they stopped using the railway in that area altogether or did re-route it with modern building materials?

Hi Prop Wash. Thanks. The line went from Sydney, New South Wales, to Brisbane, Queensland. The two states used different rail gauges. NSW used 4'8.5" and 3'6" for QLD. Just 8km north of the bridge, passengers had to change trains at Wallangarra station at the border. The line was superseded in 1930s when a line ran along the coast but continued service for freight, wheat and wool transport. Sadly, both states have closed a lot of lines in favour of road transport, but many are seeing a new life as cycle tracks.
