Home Point Distance (circled in pic, not my actual) always shows 0

You device doesn’t have a gps unit in it

The distance from the drone to the home point is shown by a large D (for Distance)
In the illustration, D= 1654 metres.
The number you circled in red is the distance between the drone and controller (as long as the controller has GPS).
These two screenshots (from an older version of the app) should make it clear:
