First opportunity today to take my new Mavic Air out. I kept it in beginner mode and took off, flew and landed manually off the matt to get a feel of it first. It worked amazingly. Quick question though. I flew in two different locations at first. At the first one I updated my home point and the controller spoke to me saying HP updated. I checked the map and it was spot on. At the second location about 5 miles away I did it again, but this time it did not speak to me. I tried it several times, still the same. The map showed spot on again where I was. I still flew manually with no problems. Back home I went into the garden to check it out. I did the HP again and it spoke to me HP updated and the map spot on. I went for one last flight just now at another location and it didnt speak to me again but the map was spot on. Does it always speak to you when updated or does the map confirm it. Sorry for long post.

I can't speak directly about the air by with my MP, it says it every time. Once I check everything on the map, I'll take off and hover just off of the ground until I get the verbal confirmation. When you took off from the second location, were you definitely in GPS mode with enough satellites?

I hadnt changed any settings at all between the locations. Im pretty sure it did say go to fly at the top of the screen. WIll check that out and try again tomorrow weather permitting. Another question then ... If I had enough satelites and it said home point updated, what happens when your flying and the number of satelites drop down a bit. Yet again sorry for asking so many questions

I just go to settings and tap "set AC location as home point" before takeoff, then verify it against the map. Can't be too careful, last Saturday my bird was thinking it was in the Middle East, but at least had enough brains to realize it's wrong and refused to set it as a home point ?

If the number of satellites drops down too far (below 9 for my MP) it will switch to Atti mode and would not hold position. This should not be a problem if you have a wide view of the sky but if you get in close to buildings or in a canyon it could cause it to happen.

if you are flying in open sky,it is very unlikely that your satellite count would drop enough to cause a problem, its when you are surrounded by tall buildings or flying inside a building that this can happen or even in a valley with very high hills all around but you would have to be at a very low altitude for that to happen.

You don't need to update your home point.

Here's a simple check for when/if you don't hear the message.
Your drone will record its home point automatically as soon as it gets a good GPS location fix.
Until then, the distance on the display will show NA (not available).
When that changes to a number (close to zero), that is your distance from the home point.
And you can't have a distance unless you have a home point.
