We had a rare few hours of sunshine here in Florida (fall weather has been filled with storms, wind and gray skies). So I flew my Mavic3 a couple miles into my local patch of the Everglades. It starts just west of one of the toll roads. I didn't find much out there to shoot, but I did find a house or some kind of structure out there. Maybe it's a research station, but there are a handful of these houses in the swamp (looking at the satellite maps). Pretty remote. You can only get there by airboat.

Here is where civilization ends, and the wetlands begin:

Here is the house:

All the green dots are lilly pads.

Interesting photos.

That building, complex, and any tall thing in such a flat area, becomes an attractive perching and roosting place for birds. A pair of vultures are there on the ridge of the main building.

I also just noticed that there is an A/C unit on the side. How does it get power? Maybe one of those out buildings has a generator? Seems like it would be hard to keep a place like this provisioned.

Here is another one of those houses. Looks like small outbuilding has an exhaust pipe top, and a screen for air intake. So I'm guessing that's the generator house. But generators go through a lot of fuel, like 2 gallons per hour.

That looks like the generator shack on the left, with an exhaust flue and a big louvered air inlet. As I recall, the Diesel generator on the three-barge fish camp in the Chandeleur Islands I used to spend time at used less than a gallon per hour, for three window ACs, fridge, freezer, television, fans, and lights.

Think of the complexities of building a house like that, getting materials and workers in and out of there. Where do you get fresh water and there ain’t no garbage man stopping by every Monday!

I was thinking the same thing. Solar with enough battery storage to get you through the night.
These days it would be competitive price with a generator but with zero fuel cost. Plenty of sun and roof area to pull it off. Still a few stilt houses on Florida Gulf Coast too but they can't be rebuilt so with storms their days are numbered.

Totally agree. You don't have any utilities, no power, no internet. Not sure how you handle waste water. But also, the only way to get in and out is with an airboat. How do you make a quick trip to the grocery store? Do they own the property it's sitting on? It's a bit crazy.

Awesome photos!
