How do you make a fast turn while flying?

How would you fly around something like a race track and do it quickly?

It seems that if I wanted to quickly fly around a big circle or around a big square that it might be best to fly straight along one side of the route, let go the forward throttle so the Mavic stops at the end of that side of the route, then turn 90 degrees and start flying straight along the next side of the route.

When I have tried to turn the Mavic while flying, it seems to take much longer to get going in the new direction.

If you have any other suggestions, please share them.

To get a balanced turn, you need to use both the rudder and ailerons at the same time -(as stated above by Cyberpower). If you try and turn just using the rudder (yaw), you get a skidding turn, as the aircraft carries on moving forward in its original direction... the faster you're going, the worse the effect. The only way to get good at it is to practise...and then practise some more. ;)

if you are trying to fly in a "square pattern" you can go from full throttle (forward) to pulling full back on the right stick to rapidly decrease your forward momentum and time it so that just as you are about to transition from forward to backwards flight, conduct an abrupt 90' turn (left or right) and then go full stick forward again. This is just a crude example but as others have stated, it is all about practicing until you get the movements down and then the flight becomes fluid.....A lot of this depends on the flight mode (P vs S) as well as your gain setting etc......then on top of that, you need to account for environmental factors (i.e. wind velocity/direction).....find a wide open space and go practice.....

Dont forget that if you are shooting while you are doing your high speed turn, your gimbal will need time to catch up with the yaw and roll of the aircraft. The slower the turn, the less work for the gimbal, and smoother the shot.

Another factor to consider that when flying wide open in a straight line, your Mavic will be pitched way forward, and the gimbal might not be able to catch the horizon properly. If youre going to do this, go to the gimbal menu, advanced settings and enable "Upwards gimbal tilt limit to 30 degrees"

You would push both the left and right sticks in the direction you were going, but you need to balance this out and time it correctly, it may end badly.

^^ What he said .
On a race drone you can actually do this plus add throttle at the same time while it is banked to pull it in that direction faster . The Mavic will not let it bank that much though :)

won't that just increase the amount of possible angle you can command, not add extra range of movement. Or do you mean so that you can set the gimbal to angle above horizon while the drone is transitioning in direction and the drone AoA is closer to horizontal, because then when you 'snap' to a high AoA fast forward you won't have a split second where you're facing the ground and then moving back to horizontal (you would have a few moments of looking high though)
