How I film

Here is my set up when I record:

4K at 24 FPS, sometimes I use 30 but there is no difference I can tell between them. I also follow the 180 degree shutter rule. All my settings are in manual. I use the histogram and the overexposure zebra stripes to check were my overexposure is.

I use ND/Polarizer. 4,8,16,32 and I have the 64 on order. I am using Polar Pro filters.

My color profile is Dlog 0,-3,-3


I use Davinci Resolve free version, but thinking about buying the studio. I rid of Adobe Creative Cloud.

I got 2 LUT packs from Ground Control Colors. The Griffin and Falcon. You still need to refine the LUT.
I color correct then apply the LUT.

I use the IMAC late 2015 and it renders fast. I was worrying that it wouldn’t hand the processing but I haven’t had a hiccup.

I do:
2k @30fps
HD @120fps for slow-mo
4k @24fps for details

Manual, 100 ISO where possible

No filters yet - looking into getting PolarPro

Never gimbal cover (too many reflections)

Color profile: DLog -1,-1,-1 (will do +3,-1,-1 when havin filters and LUTs and correction profiles for Resolve)

DaVinci Resolve - always color correction, raise gain, contrast, ...

I am looking into LUTs, will definitelly give it a try. I use sometimes Mavic lens correction profile.

Laptop: HP Z Book 17" Intel i7, 31GB Ram, SSD, decend rendering but will need to upgrade to dedicated desktop with GeForce 10x0 Ti etc.

I never tilt gimbal up from 0° when in forwardish motion,

I never shoot when yawing fast only in tripod mode and slow.

I cannot shoot directly into sunlight due to lack of filters.

One more thing: Using intelligent flight modes or any predefined waypoint missions significantly reduces glitches and bumps caused by manual control.

So that is another thing I am gonna be using more frequently.
