I have an Ipad mini 4 . What is better ? Connecting on side of remote or using bottom usb port?

Neither is better. I like to use the bottom USB port since it's easier to find USB to Lightning alternative cables.

I use the bottom usb to reduce wear and tear on the side usb which you have to use to charge.

Just don't try both.. she won't like it =)
Make sure you remove the side port USB cable, otherwise the bottom port won't work.

Bottom and iOS devices does not drawing power from the RC. So don't worry about draining the controller battery. Also, the side port socket is a little touchy, and I don't think DJI's side port cable is long enough for a Mini4. My setup
