Hey Pilots.
So I am about a month into piloting and you guys have heard me say I am trying to get over my fear of distance. Today was a nice day so I bit the bullet and tried to go as far as I could. I also took the opportunity to push Imovie as much as I could. I learned that it could do PIP and voice over but lining it up was (ahem) interesting. I could use your feedback. I think I went through every emotion known to man today. I would love to hear some critiques so I can become a better pilot and editor and maybe one day get a part 107.

I am disappointed that my triumph was so short, I mean the entire flight was about 5 mins and got a 1/2 mile. I would love to be able to explore different areas but now I understand why everyone is so excited about the MA2 and Occusync. At first I was like whats the big deal but now I get it. What do you think I need to work on? How did you all get so good at flying?

Akademik, I hear you. I’ve been flying for two weeks and I haven’t been able to fly more than 900 meters!! I I still over coming my fear of distance. Had my wife follow the flight with my binoculars and she could see the strobe light... until I lost my nerves and returned again. Small steps... I guess.

Hello guys,
MA is my second Drone and I believe that it is an absolutely good Drone for it's capabilities.
First of all when in FCC mode even if I can't go more than 700m in urban areas the connection is stable and no surprises there. I really want to be in LOS when flying over buildings.
Second after three years of flying experience with all my drones the great video or the nice shot has nothing to do with the distance. For a worthy video you must know what you want to shot and what movements you want to record during your flight and yet to master this moves you may need to flight again and again.
So go for a ride and when you see something that you want to capture go and flight... Only some "lucky" shots may occur when you don't know what are you searching for.

I can see the distance thing is important for some people. I usually only fly in line of sight and don’t usually have a need to fly further than a couple of hundred meters at most. In nearly all circumstances it’s possible to get within 200 meters of the subject you want to shoot, usually you are much closer than that. Where a more stable connection would be a real bonus, like the Occusync 2, is in urban areas with lots of Wi-Fi clutter. For myself, the biggest problem with the Mavic Air is the battery endurance, it’s usually about 15 minutes in my experience, which is too little to take time in setting up a nice shot…the noise is a pain as well, but that’s another issue.
