What does "check for fimrware update" on the RC do?

As the title says, I am looking for info what does the option "check for firmware update" do on the RC? Does it update the RC firmware? Or the bird firmware? I am seeing it even with -no bird connected so I am thinking RC firmware.

Asking for a friend who has a hacked bird and does not want to overwrite the hack... ahem

Probably update for the RC only but if you have no plans to update the drone software then I don't think you need to be concerned with updated the software on the RC. Tho it might be helpful to update the FlySafe Database.

Checks for new firmware for any of the known devices.
In that situation you typically don't want to update anything or even let it access the internet to check since it'll do it in the background on its own.

Oh btw, just seeing it isn't enough, you actually have to connect the drone in order for the update to do anything. Press it and you'll be told as such. For the RC, I believe the only update is for the DJI Fly app. If you want to make sure you have the latest update for the RC, connect your controller to your computer with a USB cable and download/open the DJI Assistant.
