There has been sunlight shining on problems long before drones ever were considered to be possible. The only difference with the use of drones is, that it is more "media-effective" but at the same time, there is another danger created: We consider the footage to be true "because we saw it on the internet" or "on TV". As everybody that does his own editing know, the more footage you get, the easier it is to manipulate.
Now, I don't say or want to indicate in anyway that the shown footage from the protests is manipulated, other sources confirm the events, but the drone footage is only one part in the entire puzzle of truth, and not the puzzle itself.
If you want the truth, if you want democracy to be possible, you don't rely on only one source. No matter if it is the NYT, WP, Algemeen Dagblad, Die Zeit or Le Monde.
This being said, I strongly doubt that the average politician is thinking that drone regulations would give them more power.
