Moderator note: I’m the developer of this app, sharing it for feedback and discussion.

Hey everyone 👋

A few months ago I shared here the first beta of MavenRoute, a web-based mission planner I’ve been developing — designed to make mission planning for DJI drones fast, intuitive, and privacy-friendly (no accounts, no data tracking).

Since then, it has evolved a lot — and today I’ve just published the official presentation video showing all its main features:

The video walks through:
• 2D / 3D / FPV Mission Preview
• Photogrammetry mission tools
• Automatic mission split by flight time
• Multi-tab workflow
• Seamless integration with Maven / Maven EVO apps

It’s a short presentation (with automatically translated audio in multiple languages 🌍), and I’d really love your feedback — especially from pilots who use waypoint and mapping missions regularly.

🌐 Try it: MAVEN ROUTE

Looks fantastic, love the terrain following feature and the ability to plan on a desktop in advance then transfer to the drone. (Reminds me of the now sadly defunct Autopilot). Does it avoid terrain obstacles like tall antenna, wind mills etc info available on VFR sectionals? I’m guessing we have to commit to determine the cost?

Thanks a lot! I’m really glad you like it.

For now, MavenRoute uses terrain elevation data to follow the ground profile, but it doesn’t yet include artificial obstacles (like towers or wind turbines from VFR charts). That’s something we may explore in the future.

As for the cost — MavenRoute itself is completely free to use, and no account is required. It’s designed as a companion to the mobile apps Maven and Maven EVO, which are one-time purchases on the App Store or Google Play (no subscription needed).

Soon, we’ll also add the ability to export missions in KMZ format for DJI Fly, and in that case there will probably be a small fee for that specific feature.

Your video does show sharing of missions developed on a desktop being transferred to the drone correct?

Not directly to the drone — the video show the mission is transferred from MavenRoute (on desktop) to the Maven or Maven EVO app on mobile device, using Maven Share.
It’s a seamless handoff between the web planner and the flight app — no cables, no account, no login required.
From there, you can execute the mission with the drone.

Looks cool, and I'd love to try/use it. Unfortunately it is not compatible with the drones I would like to use with it (ideally Mavic 4 Pro, but even working with my backup Mavic 3 Pro or Inspire 2 would be nice).

Also, since you asked for feedback, here's a bit of hopefully constructive critcism on the tag line at the top of your web site's home page. It says "Everything You Need For Your Drone". I personally find this claim a bit off putting, since it is clearly not true (based on your feature list). Other things I need that you don't list include LAANC authorizations, airspace research, TFR lookup, weather forecasts, and flight records that contain more info than is captured automatically by DJI Fly. I don't think you need to supply any of those things. But your claim to provide "everything" diverts me from appreciating what you DO offer. Just my 2c.

Thanks a lot for the thoughtful feedback — really appreciate it!

You’re probably right about the tagline. For years our apps have mostly been used by hobbyists, and only recently we’ve started moving toward a more professional audience who actually work with drones.

Regarding compatibility, we’re limited by what DJI makes available through their SDKs, but we plan to add KMZ mission export for DJI Fly by the end of the year — so even pilots using the Mavic 3 or 4 series will be able to take advantage of MavenRoute for pre-planning.

Thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts!

My pleasure. I've run several startups, and was always glad to get input from customers that helped me to understand their perspective, especially if it required me to shift mine.

That will be awesome. Looking forward to that. Is there a place I can sign up to be notified of that? Or perhaps be added to a beta tester list?

Best,
