iPad 2 for Mavic mini

I was thinking of getting an iPad 2 to use instead of my iPhone 7. Does the iPad 2 require cellular capability or just WiFi for compass use with the controller?

Don't!!!
I use to use the iPad mini wifi only and after DJI updated the app the iPad would act funky and was unreliable
I bought a used iPad Mini 3 wifi and it works just fine if you can get more than the 16 GB you will have more cashe room.

Unfortunately the iPad 2 doesn't work with the Mavic Mini. The DJI Fly app required to use the MM requires iOS 10 or newer and the latest supported iOS version for the iPad 2 is iOS 9. Also older devices like the iPad 2 don't have enough processing power to provide a seamless safe flight from my experience. On the bright side, your iPhone 7 should work great despite the screen being a bit small.
