Do I need cellular service or is WiFi only sufficient?
Will I need to use my phone as a hotspot?
Is 16 GB sufficient if only using iPad for flying and nothing else?

TIA

WiFI only is fine you can download maps before you go to your location if you require them ,always check you are all up to date while connected to the internet if you only have 16 GB then maybe disable cache to device in the app and also disable or delete any apps you do not need for flying

If you want GPS in the tablet then you do need cellular model but you don’t need a Sim card.
It seems non-cellular models have no GPS.
I picked up a mini three with cellular usedOn eBay for about $180.
I got a model with 16 GB as I plan to only use it for flying.

If you're planing to use it with Mavic Mini you have to turn off WiFi when flying.. so cellular is the only way.. not only for GPS but in the case you want to unlock any restricted area

Good point. I don't have a MM so I did not think of that.

Not true. I fly all the time with my wifi only Ipad. The Mini creates its own WiFi connection. Has nothing to do with your home WiFi . I‘ve received phone calls passed from my phone via WiFi while flying and just hit ignore and carried on.

Im flying with an Ipad air 2 wifi only with no problems other then getting the radar to work correctly
Did you calibrate the compass in the IPad? I found out that's the compass on the radar gets it's bearing from.

You're wrong... search it more...

You are right I am working on how to do that as I don't have a native compass app. Tried a d/l compass but no way to calibrate.
Seems there is a setting in privacy settings to toggle and it will calibrate.
Did that but not tried yet. I always use the map anyway .

I fly my Mini using a non-cellular newly purchased iPad mini without a hotspot connection, and unless I need to access the internet, the GPS works just fine when flying.

How does that have anything to do with your assertion that you must have cell enabled on an Ipad .
Just admit you are wrong ,and move on.
I’ m done .
