Is there any software for the ipad mini 1 that works with the mavic?

Yes, DJI GO 4 (free) and the Litchi app (about $25). Litchi app has some great stuff, but starting the DJI GO app is a great app as well.

The DJI GO 4 app will not load onto the iPad for some reason. I get its not compatible error message.

You must have an older iPad. My older iPad would not load DJI GO 4, but will load the older version DJI GO app. Litchi app loads on either, glad you were able to get it to load, great app.
