Are UAS only TFR's common? There are claims that this was done to prevent news drones from covering 10,000+ border crossers huddled under a bridge in Del Rio, TX.

That's the first time I've seen a UAS only TFR but that doesn't mean it's a first time officially. Maybe FOX will just use one of their manned aircraft to capture the same images :)

This is the second UAS specific one I've seen, but this is the larger of the two. By far.

Speculation about reasons behind it are interesting.

Speculation is Homeland is operating drones in the area and doesn't want to have midair collisions with sightseers, which, is sort of understandable. That or there's a plan to eliminate 9.983 of the rascals and don't want witnesses. It is Texas, after all.

ps: I'd say the same of Idaho.

Believe there have been warnings against using when flying endangers 1st responders like in wilderness fires.

Sorry guys but had to delete a post that could have took this into
a political discussion. So before it goes any further it’s over.
I think enough has been posted to answer the OP’s question.
