Long Distant Launch?

Does the controller have to be within a certain distance to launch?
I've only had my Mavic for a few weeks. Today, I launched from a park that's about a mile from my house. My plan was to fly to my house, land, shut down the props, then launch and return to the park. My wife was at home, observing the drone. I got it landed less than a foot from dead center. About 10 ft. high, before landing I was having transmission problems. I landed, turned off the props and lost connection. The point I launched from was at a higher elevation, but maybe it was a line of sight problem. Any ideas?

Totally line of sight related! If you drop behind obstacles that can interfere with your signal then you loose transmission strength.

That's my conclusion too, BD0G. After reviewing the video, everything was fine until I was about 4 feet off the ground. There was a 3 foot bank and a bush nearby that blocked my LOS. I'll try it again when conditions are good.

The other thing to watch out for when doing a remote landing is loss of signal at a point where RTH can kick in. In which case you might set RTH to hover or land before setting out...
