Hi
I've been flying over a derelict building quite far off. I want to get much closer but potentially run the risk of it landing on the flat roof to catch the shot I need-its unlikely but possible. This closeness to the building could finally cause a break in the already low controller signal.
If it had landed, and controller signal is lost, will it take off and do the RTH? I predict not. But just wondered.
I still haven't got comfortable with how close the drone is to the deck based on the video feed. It always looks so much closer than it really is. I have nearly touched the tips of trees on screen, but when I look up at the mavic it is still 10m above. I suppose I'm over cautious

If the drone is not in an airborne state, it will not attempt to return to home - however, if you do get it stuck on the roof without signal you should be able to move closer and just take off again

Keep being cautious. Once it has landed it cannot RTH. As Jack said, get close enough to regain signal and take off.

Thanks. So as I thought then. I'll just have to make sure I don't hit the deck. There is always that pause before it descends the last bit so I should be able to tell when its a few feet away. Main problem is that there is a big river between me and the target so I wont be able to get any closer!
