Does anybody know if it is possible to transfer from the internal drive of the drone to the SD card of the Smart Controller.?

Of course, though not directly. Simply install CX File Explorer on the SC, then in the DJI app, select the photos you want from the "On Aircraft" tab and hit the "Download" button. Then switch to CXFE, view the "Local Storage" tab (which is the built in storage for the SC) select again the files you want, then either select move or copy, go back to CXFE homescreen, select "USB storage" tab, paste and you're done!
