DJI calls it a 4x Dynamic Zoom, which is a combination of the 2x optical zoom in 4K 30fps and selecting the center 1/4 of the 4K frame, resulting in a 4x output in 10800 at 30fps selected live, using the Zoom wheel to achieve 96mm, rather than cropping from the 4K frame in post. You can stay 4x as far away while flying, and know that you have filled the frame with the skittish subject. It's very useful feature where flying twice as close would otherwise cause the subject to bolt or attack, and can keep you from needing to fly over people, and from needing to cross over NFZ barriers to get the shot.Ok, if you want it from DJI:

Mavic 2 - Product Information - DJI

The Mavic 2 Zoom has a 24-48mm lens so anything beyond that is not lossless because you are losing something, in the case of the 96mm setting you are losing around half the sensor which is why it's 1080p and not 4k. This use of that camera mode should be avoided because you are losing information, if you shoot at the standard 4k mode you can crop it down to 1080p for a digital zoom afterwards if you wish but you still have the freedom to crop and use any other part of the sensor as well.
Unfortunately it's completely normal for marketing departments to boast about digital zooms and other features to promote their products even though it's usually highly misleading to customers.
