M2P or M2Zoom?

Unfortunately, the latter statement is not correct. There is no zoom on either of the M2ED cameras. See the comparison chart below under the Dynamic Zoom section.

It does not have Dynamic zoom, but it does Digital Zoom. Just like your Evo.

I can't find anything to support your statement. Can you please supply your source? Your original contention was that the M2ED optical camera supports the same optical and digital zoom of the M2E. Clearly, that part is not true. Dynamic Zoom is the term used for the combination of the optical zoom and digital zoom together, which is 6x on the M2E (2x optical and 3x digital in 1080p). Acording to the comparison chart supplied by DroneNerds above, Dynamic Zoom is not supported at all on the M2ED, and were your statement true, the chart would still show the digital zoom capability as 3x dynamic zoom, but it doesn't. I don't have a M2ED available to test personally, but I sure would like to get to the bottom of this. Do you? We can't both be right!

Lol I have used a M2ED. That is how I know the FLIR doesn't do zoom. I never said anything about which specific type of zoom it has. All I know is that with the original camera, on the screen you can pinch to zoom in a specific area you are interested and it works. I don't know who these nerds are, but I trust what I have personally done and seen work. Hope it helps to clarify.

Nothing like boots on the ground experience. Since you have used it, when you pinch to zoom in on the screen, is that merely digitally zooming just the FPV, or is it actually recording the finger pinch digital zooming to the microSD card? Big difference. The recorded Zoom on the M2Z cannot be activated by pinching on the screen, which leads me to believe the M2ED pinching on the screen is FPV zooming only, and not recorded to the microSD card, but I stand ready to be corrected.

You could be right. I didn't take a photo, just tested things out. If I get the chance again I will check things out and let you know.

Sounds good. I'd be just as happy if you were right. ;)
More importantly, can you record continuous dual video during the pinched zoom which is of the zoomed in FPV display only? Wish I could get my hands on one myself!
The DroneNerds.com Comparison chart above would still be correct and accurate for the M2ED, if the pinch to zoom was only FPV, which you can also easily simulate on tablets that offer a screen zoom, independent of the app, as a magnifying glass of a portion of the screen, without recording the enlargement to the microSD card. Since the M2E is designed for search and rescue, the 6x Dynamic Zoom is its forte. Since we agree that the FLIR camera on the M2ED has no zoom, and the visual camera and the FLIR camera are designed to superimpose their images into a single view, the pinch to zoom visual FPV would assist in locating the target area on the FPV alone using the visual camera for dual recording after, without needing to fly closer. Do you recall what the digital pinch to zoom magnification limit was?

Sorry, I do not. I was looking at a roof and was more interested in identifying what I was looking at, than the info given by the Pilot app.

I think that's more the point of the FLIR M2ED, rather than recording long range zoom. Once properly identified, the subject can be examined carefully with the dual cameras. Given that GO 4 is not available for either the M2E or the M2ED, both are designed as professional tools with a separate dedicated Pilot app, which leaves out a lot of the popular gimmick features sought by consumers.

Is the M2ED even worth getting? I've heard the resolution quality is so bad that you have to have an XT2 to actually get jobs and most likely very high liability insurance.

The photo colors are way better than the M2Z and P4PV2.0 but the sharpness of the M2Z and P4PV2.0 are a lot better but no way can you get the colors even in post like you can w/ the M2P.

Being able to add focal length on demand is a huge plus. Think about swapping lenses manually while on the ground.

You cannot C4K60 like you can w/ the P4PV2.0.

At night is when it matters the most especially when shooting fireworks. You cannot Optical Flow 60 a 30fps video at night because the explosions look warped. Frame blending 60 doesn't really do anything but make the footage look worse than leaving it at 30.
