Malfunction mid flight?

Hello All,

I had a nearly disastrous event where the drone suddenly went into a spin and *fall* (im sure it wasnt free fall).

The controller recorded the whole event but the recording on board the mavic stopped the split second before the event took place.

There was zero damage to the propellers or marks on the body, so I dont think there was a bird strike, and a survey of the buildings afterwards assures me i didnt strike a super thin and very high antenna or something.

I have uploaded two videos, controller video and flight controls replay. I'd love to hear what you all think.

Should I keep flying this bird or is something seriously wrong?

Controller Video Recording (music added for dramatic effect lol):

Looks like the gimbal went crazy but we’ll have to see the logs to verify. I’ll post the link on how to retrieve your logs when I get back to my computer (unless someone beats me to it;)).

No hurry. I dont have my laptop with me to do it. I will be back home in about 16hrs. :)

It does drop in altitude and go sideways/spin though so can the gimble cause this kind of behaviour?

From what i can tell, its not my controller input that made this happen. (Open to being wrong).

Ok, here's the link for retrieving the dat. file off your phone. I guess my first thought was that the gimbal went a little crazy and on your screen it looked like the Mavic itself was bucking around so you tried to counteract it's movement with the RC even though the AC was stable and it was the gimbal moving around. I'm really just guessing, and I can't really tell from the video you posted. However, the flight logs know it all so keep us posted!:) -CF

Looks like gimbal reset in mid flight
It happens, nothing to worry about. Just wait till it's finished
Keep flying

None of the logs match that flight, but it just looks like gimbal reset which is a well documented issue some have had, doesn't affect flight at all. Video doesn't actually show more of a weird flight path beyond what you likely did with the sticks by panicking.

Just a reset.. scary as all heck if your not ready for it lol..

OP what kind (brand, capacity, etc.) of SD card do you have in your Mavic?
The current working theory is that the mid-flight gimbal resets are somehow SD-card-related. Your data points will help. :D

That would make sense as his on-board recording stopped right when the incident occurred.

Mine did the same and was a gimbal reset.
Had same pucker factor. Thought it was a bird strike as well. Checked everything.
Only happened once since then.

Using Sandisk 64GB extreme card. I was recording at 4k. Given the video cut out on the drones recording of the event precisely before the event occured I'm inclined to support this theory. I've always used this card. But! This one was brand new, and in it's first use. Maybe its dodgy or maybe i should have formatted it before first use?

Now i have a theory to work with. Im going to go out if my way to see if I can make it repeatable lol.

I had my first gimbal reset mid flight a couple of days ago and have had the Mavic Pro since day 1. I've not been on this forum for months and I've noticed some people are hoping for a firmware fix but I am not so optimistic, is this becoming problem becoming more widespread?
