I have a basic question regarding the Maven app. After creating a waypoint mission, how is the mission saved? and where is it saved?

Just tap the save icon to the left of the gear at the top left of the screen where you create a mission. If you forget and tap the left pointing arrow under the word Mission the app will ask you if you want to save it.
You will then find it in the list of missions you create.
Thank you for clarifying. I didn't realize the left pointing arrow was the quote "Save Button". So far, Maven seems to be a very good app.

Actually, the left arrow is not the save button. It is a "back" button that will ask if you want to save your mission before you exit.
The save button is the icon that looks like an old style 3 1/2" floppy disk.
