I went out flying yesterday with one of my friends and his Mavic 2 zoom moves around without the use of the remote. He flew into our area and hovered above us, set his remote down to get some snacks. While he was getting them the Mavic just seemed to move around on it's own. He asked me to post on this as he said it started doing this the last few flights and could not figure it out. Any help ?

Was it windy at altitude? Did the image on the control device shift? May have just been compensation for wind while maintaining point of focus.

this will probably sound stupid, and maybe it is,i have noticed that when i am out at some distance and up around 200ft and it is cloudy with a reasonable wind blowing, that when i look at the drone it appears to be moving in relation to the clouds ,but in reality it is the clouds moving not the drone.

It was calm day, and just four feet off the ground and it moved forward like it was it tripod mode on it's own. There was nothing near it.
Calibration to the remote has been done already.

VPS positioning possibly. How far was it drifting? Did it continue forward drift? Recover? Become relatively stationary? Need a little more detail please.

there is something not right here,in your first post you said your friend flew into your area and hovered above you ,then in this post it was 4ft off the ground if you are going to post please get your story right before you start and dont tell me you were lying down on the beach (removed by moderator)

Poor GPS positioning info?

I'm in Nevada and also fly power and glider planes. Several times a year we get FAA notification of GPS signal blocking in large areas surrounding military installations when they test jamming equipment . Depending on distance away, it will partially or completely shut down all GPS nav.

the Mavic just seemed to move around on it's own.
His drone seems to move around?
What does that mean?
There's no way to comment (or even tell if there was a real issue) without a lot more information.
Can you describe better what you think you saw?
What kind of motion and how much does it seem to move around?

You are also going to need to show recorded flight data so what you think you saw can be compared to what was actually happening.

Recalibrate the sensors, had the same problem,ac would drift forward slowly, worked fine after recalibrating.
Good luck

Guessing the downward looking sensors were just not behaving, I've seen it before with a much worse outcome... My other comment would be why would set set your controller down and not be attentive to your aircraft?... to get some snacks??! Really? You are 100% responsible for keeping your aircraft in control 100% of the time, relying solely on the magic of technology to do your work for you is not a good idea, technology fails all the time. Just some "food for though" ;-)
