Mavic Mini connected to iPad mini

What if you use your cell phone as a hotspot and connect the iPad to it. Will it use the phone's GPS to make FMD function properly?
I know it works for loading maps on my Mini iPad 4 but it is a cell/wifi unit so I can't confirm if this would work with just a wifi tablet. I would think it would. And if there is concern about having the wifi on during flight I would think you could have it off but activate when needed and still have it work. But again I can't confirm.
