My name's Rick and I just pulled the trigger on a new Mavic (should arrive on Monday)

I live on Long Island, but currently at my house in Orlando on vacation, so I figured I'd have it shipped here to avoid NY's crazy tax ;)

Been flying drones since long before it was actually ok to to call them drones, but I'm old school and the Mavic with all its bells and whistles is surely new to me.

I'm coming from F550 Hex that was pieced together with a GoPro and a 2-axis gimbal, so the Mavic is definitely a step up.

Welcome to Mavic Pilots .
I hope you will find our site helpful and look forward to any input , photo's/video's you might post .
Don't be shy and ask anything if you can't find it by searching .:)

Thanks for the arm welcome :)

I guess the first question would be where can I find a good easy beginners guide to the Mavic?

I'll admit I rarely ever read manuals and just rely on forums and hands on experience, but I can appreciate an easy guide to get me in the air and back on the ground in one piece ;)

Thanks for the link to the manual

I'll try to read up on it a bit before it arrives.

Another question I have is on insurance....

The first thing that popped up while checking out on B&H's website was an option for SquareTrade insurance.

Not familiar with them, so I skipped it, figuring I'd get the scoop on sumthin better from you guys....

I'll do some searching, but would it be better to go directly through DJI for insurance or perhaps an actual insurance company like Progressive or State Farm?

I personally use a State Farm policy for $60 a year. It is a personal item policy. There is also the DJI options along with options like square trade. I have used square trade type policies on electronics and it is an easy claim process. Just be sure the policy is intended to cover a drone.

Does your policy with SF cover all states or just your home state?

Although I'm on the Island for most of the year, I have everything I own registered to my house in Florida
