Mavic Pro falling out of the sky

Good morning,
I recently bought my Mavic Pro and have flown it a few times successfully.
However a short while ago, I was flying in an open field and did a return home at 30 meters. It started the return and came right over the landing pad when it just suddenly dropped out of the sky, it came down so suddenly that I was only able to try and get some lift, it however not enough to prevent it landing very hard. The motors were still running and the blades still spinning. Luckily it was a very sandy area, so no damage that I can see. All the batteries were about full. I flew it straight afterwards with no problems. Any ideas from anybody about what could have happened.?

What time of day/night was this? Remember that the bottom sensors do not work very well in low lighted conditions. Only how I know this is I made this mistake once. I was out filming a rocket launch and my battery was down to 25%, so I decided to land to swap it out. I was going full throttle down, and was watching the rocket and not the drone.. Next thing I hear is a crashing sound. Luckily no major damage, but i did some research and learned a valuable lesson that night.

Hi there,
It was a clear day and it was about 1 o'clock in the afternoon

While it was landing did you accidentally play with sticks on the remote and send a CSC causing motors to shut down.

No. I was showing friends how it returns to where it took off, so I was letting it do its own thing. When it came down you could still hear the motors running like when you pull down on the stick to do a fast decend

Sounds as though the bottom sensors never sensed it was near the ground. Hopefully some of the more experienced folks will be along with a more scientific answer.

Thanks for trying to help. I also checked the log and the only error report it had was something like propellers obstructed, must have been when it was lying on the ground, they got stuck in the landing pad

@sar104 may be able to tell you exactly what happened by viewing your flight records. There is a link you can go to that will explain how to access them and how to upload them where sar104 and others can view them.

That is VERY NICE to know!

were you using a landing pad, sounds like the sensors were unable to detect the surface the mav normally hovers a couple of feet off the ground and waits for you to input full down stick to land it does not normally just come come straight in even on a RTH
