Hey guys,

I am looking to upgrade my Phantom 3 standard. I need something that's a bit more travel friendly, and something with more range. I narrowed it down to the Mavic Pro Platinum Fly More or the Mavic 2 Zoom Base as they are around the same price. I have read numerous articles, posts and watched several YouTube videos, and I still cannot decide.

It would be nice to get the whole fly more package with the Mavic Platinum, however I am worried about buying slightly older tech. I also noticed while reading the forum there are some growing pains that came with the Mavic 2 like the DJI googles not working and a few other issues. The Ocusync 2.0 would be a nice feature however I'm sure anything is better then the range of the Phantom 3 Standard.

Any help with deciding is greatly appreciated.

it is really a personal choice, i purchased the MPP around the time the mavic 2 came on line ,my reasoning was based on the price and the fact that the MPP had been out long enough for most of the bugs to be ironed out, i got the fly more package for less than the cost of the mavic 2 i have not regretted my choice as my mavic has performed just as it should, i am sure that in time the mavic 2 will get sorted, its not so much the drone but the constant updating that is needed, and unless you really must have the very latest tech, then the MPP is a great piece of kit

As much as I like having at least one spare battery when flying if I had the choice between the Mavic 1 with the fly more kit and a Mavic 2 Zoom I'd go for the Mavic 2. I have a Mavic 1 Pro and a Mavic 2 Pro and I prefer the latter as the camera is a decent upgrade (as is the zoom setup) and there's lot of small upgrades as well. Longer term you should be able to add a battery or two and whatever else you need.

The Mavic 1 is still a superb drone though and I think you'll get on well with either drone.

I fly the mavic 1 and because the price has dropped so much on them I won’t be heart broken if I lose one in the forest . I have two of them and 8 batteries so I get lots of air time . They work flawlessly with the white dji goggles.

I have the mav pro 1 and zoom...actually sold one mav pro and the back up has been getting dusty...zoom blows it out of the water....i actually flew a pack with the og mav pro and the zoom has just spoiled me. Everything is just muddy with the og mav pro and requires alot of post processing work to clean it up. Even then its still meh....not so with the zoom. They might have same size semsor but it is a way ahead. Dji has def done something different in processing the image or those extra 40mbps are really helping out and i doubt it is helping out that much.

So yeah man def recommend zoom. Also there isnt any bugs atleast i dont have any problems with anything ive also used my galaxy s9+ (android) and my ipad (ios) no problems. The og mav pro did have bugs when first released not so with the zoom or 2 pro... so we are passed all that .

I did the same thing Old Man Mavic did and wish I had bought the MP2 zoom. I am a photographer first drone hobbiest 2 so I am biased. You already know MPP will not be getting anymore updates so that is the beginning of the end for that technology if any bugs appear in the near future tech support will not have a fix since company has moved on to bigger and better. I am guessing I have less than 20 hours on this MPP with Refresh, three batteries bunch of accessories if you decide you want MPP pm me and I will give you all the details and save you some money. The reason this drone has so few hours I totaled the first drone and DJI replaced it. I bought additional extension so I still have two drone replacement package. I fly much more conservative and careful since last August.

I have the MP1 and, while I do love it, I definitely wouldn't hesitate getting the MPZ if I were buying one today. You can buy more batteries down the road but you can't add any of the Zoom's features to the MP1! That said, there's nothing wrong with the MP1. It's a fine UAV and I love it.

If I were purchasing one today, the tougher question would be the Zoom vs the Pro 2. But it sounds like your budget has decided that one for you already.
