I was at Bayland Park in Sunnyvale, CA yesterday performing a quick shot dronie. During the process, I have noticed that the mavic is getting closer to the trees. I hit the pause button but unforunately the drone did not respond, instead it continues to the direction of the tree.

Now it is stuck at 70-80 ft. I researched some ways to get the drone but nothing work except.... I called a tree service pro and Steve came to my rescue. He climbed up the Eucalyptus tree and retrieved the mavic. The drone just had a minor breakage on the propelers but nothing major.

I flew it again without any problem. For NorCal drone pilots, if these happen to you contact my friend Steve and he will get your drone back in your hands.

Call Steve from Professional Tree Care at 408.603.3791.

wonder why pause button failed?

Don’t know. I been flying for sometime now using the intelligent flights but this is the first time that caused a “glitch.”

Might be time to stop relying on the autonomous modes... your mavic is a pretty good flying camera but a marginal flying robot. And Trees are clearly Not our friends...

Assuming that Steve had permission from the City of Sunnyvale to climb that tree in their Park? What was the fee?

I find that you have to hold that pause button for quite a while for the intelligent flight mode to stop

I had my Mavic in Active Track, and it crossed in front of a tree, losing site off the subject. It fast forwarded and slammed into the tree. I did not have object avoidance turned off . Fortunately it was low, and it only damaged a propeller. Makes me concerned about autonomous modes.

so flipping the opposing lever would have been better?

He only charged me $70 but I was so appreciative of his service and that I gave him an extra $70.

Good job. It's nice to hear a happy ending to crashed drone story.

Ha! My first flight also at Baylands gave me great confidence; the second I lost sight of the MP and flew into a tree. Stuck about 30 feet high. I finally rode my bike home, gathered up some poles and duct tape and drove back to retrieve it. Nice to have your idea as a backup plan. I decided I had no business in the tree myself.

Not trying to step on any toes posting a web page BUT as it is pertinent and since I do know my way around trees (yes, a pun) - I found this DIY vid and built one prolly cost less than $20 usd. HTH

Pretty neat! The rocket people are way ahead of us. (This is real rocket science.) One might find all kinds of uses for this contraption; I'm thinking shooting cats from my lawn chair.

a good rod and reel would do the same trick
